Aadhaar eSign API for Insurers, Brokers and Insurtechs
Insurance runs on signed declarations: the proposal form, health and good-health declarations, claim forms and discharge vouchers. The SignYu API lets your policy admin, broker platform or claims system send these for Aadhaar OTP eSign and react to the signature by webhook. Pricing is from ₹15 per signature (₹15 per signature on packs of 10 or more), with API access at ₹999/month with a 3-day free trial.
The problem with paper signing
- Point-of-sale agents carry paper proposal forms that must be scanned and couriered to underwriting.
- Claims settlement waits for a signed discharge voucher from the customer.
- Declarations signed with a scanned signature are hard to defend in a disputed claim.
- Onboarding POSPs and agents needs signed agreements at scale.
Documents you can sign with the API
Proposal form and declarations
The proposer eSigns the completed proposal, including health and other material declarations.
Health or good-health self-declaration
Used for reinstatement, top-ups and portability. A short PDF signed with Aadhaar OTP.
Claim form and discharge voucher
The claimant eSigns to accept the settlement amount, so the payout can be released.
Claim-related affidavits and indemnities
Simple declarations can be eSigned; if a sworn, notarised affidavit is required for a claim, do that separately.
How the integration works
- 1
Proposal completed
Your quote and buy flow renders the filled proposal form as a PDF.
- 2
Create and add the proposer
POST /api/v1/documents, then POST /api/v1/documents/{id}/signers with the proposer, and the life assured as a second signer if different.
- 3
Send inside the journey
POST /api/v1/documents/{id}/send and redirect the customer to their signUrl so the signature happens in the same session as payment.
- 4
Underwriting picks it up
On document.completed, fetch the signed PDF via downloadUrl and the completion certificate, and attach both to the proposal in the policy admin system.
Legal validity
Aadhaar eSign through SignYu is issued via eMudhra and is valid under Section 3A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The First Schedule of the IT Act excludes some documents from electronic signing: negotiable instruments other than cheques (such as promissory notes and bills of exchange), powers of attorney, trusts, wills and other testamentary dispositions, and any contract for sale or conveyance of immovable property or any interest in such property. Proposal forms, declarations, claim forms and discharge vouchers are not in that list and can be eSigned. Assignments or nominations governed by specific rules in the Insurance Act, and any IRDAI requirements for your product, still apply; check your compliance team's position on electronic execution for each document type. SignYu is a signing tool and does not make your process IRDAI compliant on its own.

Frequently asked questions
Can the customer sign during the online purchase?
Yes. The send call returns a signUrl that you can redirect the customer to immediately after payment, so the proposal is signed in the same session.
Is the proposer's identity verified?
The signer authenticates with an OTP sent to the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar, through eMudhra's eSign gateway. The signed PDF carries the eSign certificate with the signer's name as per Aadhaar.
What if the life assured and proposer are different people?
Add both as signers on the same document. Each completes their own Aadhaar OTP, and each uses one credit.
How do we prove the signing sequence in a disputed claim?
Download the Signature Completion Certificate from the certificate endpoint. It lists the document's events in chronological order, which you can keep with the signed proposal.
